`Tribunal failed to provide justice to State'

Bidar: Congress members staged a protest in Bidar on Saturday against the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal's final verdict.

Protesters walked in a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office. They submitted a memorandum to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi and dispersed. The memorandum said the tribunal had failed to provide justice to the State.

"Karnataka has the second largest arid area in the country after Rajasthan. Cauvery water, if well utilised, can help improve the irrigation potential of the State. Moreover, Bangalore, Mysore and other growing cities are also dependent on the river for drinking water. The tribunal has neglected the demands of the State for additional sanction of water for drinking purposes. They demanded that the Government take recourse to all possible steps to get its due share of water.

Member of Parliament Narsingrao Suryavanshi, MLC Quazi Arshad Ali, district president V.K. Patil, former MLA M G Mule and other leaders were present, said a release.
