Three-day utsava begins today

BIJAPUR: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is scheduled to inaugurate "Chalukya Utsava", a three-day cultural festival at Pattadkal temple complex, a UNESCO-listed world heritage site in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district on Sunday evening.

Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Govind Karjol, who is also the Bagalkot district in-charge Minister, Revenue Minister Jagdish Shettar, and Tourism Minister Sriramulu will participate in the inaugural function. However, according to sources in the district administration, Mr. Kumaraswamy's itinerary is yet to be confirmed.

After the inaugural function, cultural and recreational events will be held in which famed musicians, instrumentalists and artistes will perform.

They include film star and danseuse Shobana; Ajey Chakrabarthi, Praveen Sultana and Arathi Ankalekar (Hindustani music); Pandit Anindo Chattergee and his son, Anubruth (tabla jugalbandhi); Sandeep Chattergee (santoor); Praveen Godkhindi (flute); Reela Hota (Odissi); Guru Kiran (music composer) and Kasturi Shankar (singer).

While second day's programme will be held at Aihole, another heritage place of Chalukyas, the third day's events will be organised at Badami, famous for cave temples, also a creation of Chalukyas. Wide podiums with special sound and light effect have been erected at all three places.

Arrangements

Elaborate arrangements, including transport, eateries and drinking water points, have been made for the benefit of audience, according to Deputy Commissioner, G.N. Nayak, who inspected the preparations on Saturday.

He told The Hindu over phone from Bagalkot that the administration was expecting a minimum of 20,000 people on all three days.
