HYDERABAD: If everything goes well, the much talked-about high security vehicle number plates may be implemented across the State within six months. A high-power committee, constituted to study anomalies in implementing the rule, has submitted its draft report to the State Government in June. The Government, in turn, sought clarifications from experts in December last based on suggestions made in the report and examined all issues confronting implementation of the rule.
Awaiting permission
"We expect the Government to give the green signal within six months after discussing the issue in one of the forthcoming Cabinet meetings," a senior Transport official said, adding that a report had also been submitted to the Supreme Court on the action plan prepared to make these number plates compulsorily. He said 18 registered companies, mostly from Germany, had agreed to supply these plates. "After getting permission, we will enforce it in a phased manner over three years," he said, adding that Meghalaya had already started implementing it, covering 1.5 lakh vehicles. It may be mentioned here that the Apex Court had directed the Centre to enforce the rule in all States from January 1, 2005.
