CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Cabinet on Saturday took stock of the outcome of the State Finance Commission (SFC) meeting held on February 13 and 14, according to official sources. "The SFC usually finalises new schemes for each department before the State budget," the sources pointed out. The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, also discussed ways to tone up implementation of the populist schemes, including the distribution of colour television sets to the poor and the downtrodden, as announced in the budget for 2006-2007, the sources said. The panel, formed to consider the Third State Finance Commission's recommendations related to financial management of local bodies, had met at the Secretariat. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin, Public Works Minister Durai Murugan and Higher Education Minister K.Ponmudi attended the meeting, which was chaired by Finance Minister K.Anbazhagan, an official release said.
