TAMBARAM: Three days ago, a police constable and a youth working as a sales agent with a private bank were killed in separate road accidents in Tambaram and Pallavaram. A speeding lorry and a rashly driven mini-lorry were the vehicles that caused the accidents. In the first accident that took place near the railway level crossing at Tambaram, 28-year-old C.Karthikeyan was killed on the spot when the mini-lorry hit the motorcycle he was riding. A resident of Medavakkam, he was working as a two-wheeler sales agent with a leading private company. Karthikeyan was returning from the Motor Vehicle Inspector's Office in Tambaram after completing the registration for his brand new TVS Victor motorcycle, when the accident took place. And in Pallavaram, J.Kennedy (42), sustained serious injuries after his motorcycle was hit by a lorry at the intersection of Veteran Lines and Grand Southern Trunk Road. Kennedy, staying in St. Thomas Mount Police Quarters, was attached to the Crime Records Bureau in the city and had come to meet his relatives.
Motorcycle hit
He was returning to his house, when the lorry, carrying a road roller, hit the motorcycle. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he died on Friday morning. Traffic police are trying to trace the lorry, as it did not stop at the accident spot. Earlier on Thursday morning, a youth was killed by a speeding lorry. Arterial roads in Tambaram have become high-risk zones with the vehicle population increasing simultaneously with over-speeding and indiscipline, police said.
