CMDA to prepare detailed database of violations

CHENNAI: The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has been asked to prepare a detailed database of violations by multi-storeyed residential buildings in the city by an empowered panel. This panel or sub-committee is an offshoot of a High Court-appointed monitoring committee. It has been looking at suggesting action plans to correct violations by such buildings that came up for the 1999 regularisation scheme.

The sub-committee, which met at the CMDA office on Friday, came up with a set of guidelines on how to deal with violations by multi-storeyed residential and special buildings, according to CMDA sources. The guidelines, the sources added, were in accordance with the High Court directive to deal more leniently with residential buildings than it will do with commercial structures. However, the committee decided to be stringent when it came to adherence to fire safety norms. Other modalities include strict action against those residential buildings on narrow and congested surroundings as well as modalities on penalty and other corrective measures.
