CPI (M), MIM almost come to blows

  • Moghalpura police intervene
  • Pacify both party workers

HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed in Moghalpura of old city with workers of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) almost coming to blows over the `padayatra' taken out by the latter on Saturday night.

With both parties lodging complaints against one another, the Moghalpura police registered cases and counter-cases against the two parties. The CPI (M) party workers, led by their Rajya Sabha member P. Madhu, took out the `padayatra' around 8 p.m. in Moghalpura water tank area, said to be the bastion of the MIM.

    Objection

Trouble started when MIM workers raised objection over the Left party workers' march accusing them of bursting crackers which was disturbing the evening prayers. "The MP argued whatever they were doing was within the law. This resulted in heated arguments," Mirchowk ACP Ashok Kumar Singh said.

MIM ex-corporator Harun Khan, who was present at the spot, alleged that the Left party workers threw some crackers on his vehicle. Tempers ran high and workers of both the parties came almost to blows when police intervened and pacified both the groups.
