HYDERABAD: N. Madhusudan Reddy, scientist, Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad, bagged the BioAsia Innovation Award 2007 given to a young scientist. He won the award for his proposal `Microbial process for L-Arginine production'. Chairman of Recruitment and Assessment Centre, DRDO, Delhi, K.V.Raghavan presented the award carrying a cash prize of Rs. one lakh to Dr. Reddy at the valedictory function of BioAsia-2007 here on Saturday.
Review journals
A total of 15 entries had been received for the award of which nine were shortlisted and Dr. Reddy's proposal was selected as the project was published in peer review journals. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Raghavan said the biotechnology incubator proposed in Hyderabad would be operational by the year-end. Stating that Hyderabad had emerged as a hub for information technology, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector, he pointed out that nanotechnology was another area which had wide scope. Networking of research institutions such as IICT, CCMB, University of Hyderabad and Osmania University was necessary to achieve significant results in biotechnology research. Anwar Nasim, president, Federation of Asian Biotech Association (FABA), said Pakistan would host an international conference on biotechnology in September. He wanted the FABA network to be expanded and expressed satisfaction that Japan, China and Iran had joined it.
