Road map for ties with Riyadh: Ahamed

Cooperation to be intensified in commerce and trade

PALAKKAD: Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said here that the Union Government was "busy preparing a road map for cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia at the civil society level."

Mr. Ahamed The Hindu that during the recent visit of the Saudi King to India it was decided that the "traditional friendship and co-operation between the people of the countries should be intensified. So, it was decided to have better people-to-people relations."

Abhang, a former Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry now working with the Jamia Milia University, was appointed to prepare the road map.

Mr. Ahamed said there would be an exchange programme for writers, literary figures, artists and others from the cultural field of both countries.

ICCR teams to

Saudi Arabia

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) would send delegations to Saudi Arabia.

Cooperation would also be intensified in commerce and trade.

Businessmen from both countries would set up industries and business units.

`Just decision'

On the bifurcation of the Palakkad Railway Division to create the Salem Division, Mr. Ahamed said that the Centre would take a just decision.

"No unjust decision will be taken that would affect the interests of the people of Kerala or the existence of the Palakkad Railway Division. We are sure Railway Minister Lalu Prasad will take a decision protecting the interests of Palakkad, one of the oldest Railway Divisions," he added.
