Orissa artists get international recognition

Delihi-based art gallery to hold workshop in State


  • Four-day camp to commence from March 27
  • Artists to be felicitated during valedictory

    BHUBANESWAR: Orissa contemporary artists, it seems, have finally found takers in the international art auction market. Krishna Art Gallery of New Delhi is organising an exclusive workshop with 14 contemporary artists of Orissa at the State capital here next month. Elaborating, workshop convener and painter Manas Ranjan Jena has told The Hindu that the camp will be conducted at Jayadev Bhawan from March 27 that will have seven veteran and an equal number of promising artists of the State.

    Selected artists

    The selected artists include Kasinath Jena, Byomakesh Mohanty, Baladev Maharatha, Ramahari Jena, Alekh Chandra Sahoo, Gajendra Padhi, Lalatendu rath, Swarup Panigahi, Subas Pujari, Helen Bala Brahma and Tarakant Parida, Mr. Jena said and added that well-known artist Siba Panigrahi will coordinate the event while acclaimed artist Ajit Keshari Ray and gallery director Krishna Chanda will felicitate the participants during the valedictory function.

    Each of the senior artists will be offered Rs.10,000 as participation fee while youths will receive Rs.5000 each. The gallery will put up an exhibition of the workshop products at the prestigious Triveni Art Gallery in New Delhi and will publish a catalogue of the artists too, he said.

    A few art critics are being invited to evaluate the products of the workshop and join an interactive session with artists on completion of the programme.

    The valedictory evening will have a cultural programme based on Jayadev's Geet Govind, he said.
