ANU reschedules exams

Acharya Nagarjuna University has rescheduled degree examinations in view of the holiday for Holi on March 3 and elections to Legislative Council on March 17.

The Assistant Controller of Examination K. Nageswara Rao said that the first year B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, exams scheduled for March 3 would be conducted on March 19 and the Third Year degree exams of March 3 have been scheduled for March 15.

The Degree Second Year exam scheduled for March 16 will now be held on March 24, while the exam scheduled for March 17 has been put off to March 26.

The examination in Optional paper of Second Year will however, be conducted as scheduled on March 23.

Ills of privatisation

Privatisation of Universities will lead to further deterioration of quality, Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice Chancellor V. Balamohandas told students at the Pratibha Puraskar presentation ceremony on the campus organized by All India Students Federation.

If the Government was unable to fund universities, it go in for private participation, but should not allow setting up of private universities, he opined.

Proposals to NABARD

The ANU has proposed to National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to provide funding for repair of aqua farms, starting of medicinal plants garden, providing training to farmers and students on aquaculture and computer networking in rural areas.

NABARD Chief General Manager Ramakrishna held talks with Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas, Rector Y. Haragopala Reddy and University College Principal M. Durgaprasad.

The bank CGM has asked the university to send a detailed project report for a likely memorandum of understanding with the ANU on funding some projects.

SVU

Distance Education Council, New Delhi has sanctioned a grant of Rs.40 lakh to Sri Venkateswara University's Directorate of Distance Education.

The funds will be used for infrastructure improvement such as library development, research on study material and staff training.

Vice-Chancellor S.Jayarama Reddy handed over the cheque to the DDE director Y.Sudhakar Reddy recently.
