Excessive

This was not a case of motivated, planned or diabolic murder but an act of arson that unfortunately resulted in the deaths. The Hindu should lend its voice for commuting the death sentence of the three. It has been an ardent advocate of abolition of the death penalty.

The judgment is subject to appeal. The sessions court has not found any conspiracy or common intention. The death penalty for the three men seems excessive.
