Mauresmo wins diamond racket

Antwerp: Top seed Amelie Mauresmo defeated last year's finalist Belgium's Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-6 in the Diamond Games tennis final on Sunday.

A hat-trick of Antwerp titles for the French World No. 3 meant she became the first player to win the event's diamond-studded racket estimated to be worth one million euros ($1.31 million). Mauresmo also beat the Belgian in last year's final.

Sunday's match was Clijsters's last competitive appearance on home soil as she plans to quit at the end of the season.

Clijsters overcame Tatiana Golovin of France 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday in the semifinals.

First ATP title

France's Gilles Simon beat Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-4, 7-6(3) to win the $600,000 Marseille Open on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Simon, ranked 58th in the world, won the first ATP tournament of his career following victory over the seventh-seeded Baghdatis.

A repeat

Meanwhile at San Jose, defending champion Andy Murray beat top seed Andy Roddick 7-6, 6-4 on Saturday to reach the final of the San Jose Open.

In a repeat of last year's semifinal, third seed Murray served 14 aces on the way to clinching victory and now plays Ivo Karlovic after the big-serving Croat beat German Benjamin Becker 7-6, 7-5 in the other semifinals.

Karlovic said Murray would be a tough opponent.

The results: At Antwerp (WTA Proximus Diamond Games): Final: Amelie Mauresmo bt Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-6. Semifinals: Kim Clijsters bt Tatiana Golovin 6-4, 6-3.

At Marseille (ATP Tour Open 13): Final: Gilles Simon bt Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 7-6(3).

At San Jose (ATP SAP Open): Semifinals: Andy Murray bt Andy Roddick 7-6(8), 6-4; Ivo Karlovic bt Benjamin Becker 7-6(5), 7-5.
