Full points for Bangalore Lions

CHANDIGARH: Bangalore Lions chalked out a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sher-e-Jalandhar in the Premier Hockey League here on Sunday.

The Lions conceded the first goal in the 15th minute after a defensive lapse inside the 25-yard line saw Sher-e-Jalandhar star Gagan Ajit Singh steal the ball on the right flank.

He darted into the circle dodging past a couple of defenders and shot home from a narrow angle.

The Lions then took control of the midfield with a four-man brigade and stopped the dangerous rival raids from the right by marking Baljit Singh Saini and Baljit Singh Dhillon.

The Lions struck the equaliser in the 19th minute when speedy striker Hari Prasad put Sandeep Michael in possession with a short pass. Sandeep smashed the ball home.

Two minutes before half-time, Lions' second penalty corner saw Len Aiyappa scoring what turned out to be the match-winner.

2-0 win for Warriors

On Saturday, Maratha Warriors beat Chandigarh Dynamos 2-0. The first goal came in the fourth minute of the second half (third quarter) when a sliding Shivender Singh deflected a pass from teammate Ajmer Singh.

Two minutes later, Hardeep Singh sounded the boards after a good move by Warriors' Australian import Jamie Dwyer. — Agencies
