Soz calls for peace in J&K

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: The peace process between India and Pakistan was moving on the desired pace and it would not only strengthen the relations between people of both nations but also boost the trade and economy in the region, Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz said on Saturday.

Addressing a public meeting at Tujjar Sharief, near Sopore, Prof. Soz said the recent visit of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, head of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference to Pakistan, also contributed to strengthening the process.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were keen to see peace returning to Jammu and Kashmir so that the State could prosper and develop on a par with other States.

Prof. Soz said the Central Government was very liberal in giving funds to the State for improving road connectivity, health, education, agriculture, horticulture, drinking water and power sectors.

He called upon the people to extend their cooperation to the Government in restoration of peace and normality.
