Rohan, Dinesh take top spots

Coimbatore: Sri Lankan drivers Rohan de Silva and Dinesh Jayawardana began the new season on a winning note bagging the top spots in the sprint races in the second Indo-Sri Lankan race meet at the Kari Motor Speedway circuit in Chettipalayam, near here on Sunday.

Veteran racer Rohan made the best use of his international experience to win the opening sprint race in the Formula LGB Esteem category.

Starting fifth on the grid, the Lankan ace international driver quickly moved up the grid to outwit pole leaders Gaurav Dalal (India) and Sri Lanka's Jayawardana for the chequered flag.

Much was expected of Gaurav but he experienced problems with the brakes and went off the track twice to finish for the fifth place.

The second race saw Dinesh doing one better. The youngster, who clinched the second position in the first race, had no problems whatsoever in getting past his countryman and nearest rival Romani De Silva.
