Puducherry
Special Correspondent
Puducherry: Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University M. K. Ramachandra Nair has said that 21st century is only for skilled professionals and do not require ordinary graduates. Presenting a special address on the concluding day of the three-day industry-institute interface organised by the Department of Management Studies in Pondicherry University here on Sunday, he said that youth should have self-motivation and should develop total skills. They should be creative, imaginative and dynamic. Mr. Nair stressed that there should be a major shift from present style of education in institutions to some other forms to cope up with the requirements of the 21st century in the context of privatisation, liberalisation and globalisation.
`Lot of inputs'
He welcomed the interface and interaction programme of the university, which enabled the students to get lot of inputs. He stressed that the objective of all training programmes should be focussed to identify persons, who would be useful in real life situations.
Strong points
There were so many strong points as far as countries, the youth and the Governments in Asia were concerned. "We should fine-tune the resources available including the facilities in educational institutions," he added. The Vice-Chancellor said that total leadership, effective communication capability and enrichment of competency should be taken care of to face the emerging challenges at the international-level. The Regional Manager of State Bank of India, M. Rajendran, who addressed the students later at a separate venue wrapping up the three-day event, pointed out that students should demonstrate commitment in their careers and take those, who were successful in corporate and industrial world, as their role models to come out with flying colours.
Job-providers
He suggested that instead of being job-seekers, the professional graduates could be job-providers. The youth should think and learn continuously and they should also get prepared for changes in tune with the changes in environment. Registrar of the university S. Loganathan, who felicitated, said that humane qualities would always stand the professionals in good stead. Head of Department of Management Studies M. Basheer Ahmed Khan, Dean Panneerselvam, professor and coordinator of "Synapse 2007" S. Hariharan, placement officer V. Samuel Rajkumar and senior lecturer B Charumathi also spoke.
