Three children drowned in Paravur Lake

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: A house-warming ceremony at Kurumandal, near Paravur, on Sunday turned tragic when the two sons of the house owner drowned in the nearby Maala Kayal portion of Paravur Lake. A relative's son also drowned. The police identified the deceased as Linu, 8, and his brother Jithu, 5, and Prathesh, 8.

The three boys had sneaked out for a bath in the nearby lake shortly after lunch at 2 p.m. On reaching the banks, they were dissuaded from entering the lake by a woman who lived nearby.

However, the boys moved to a different portion of the lake. When the family members found that the boys were missing, they set out in search of the trio.

They found the children's clothes on the banks of the lake and took out rescue operations with the help of the local people.

The bodies of the children were fished out soon afterwards.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem examination.
