Coop. sector in disarray: Raghavan

Staff Reporter

KANNUR: The cooperative sector in the State is in a disarray owing to the policies of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government during the past nine months, Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader M.V. Raghavan said on Sunday. He was inaugurating the State conference of the Kerala Cooperative Workers' Federation (KCWF) here.

The Communist Party of India(Marxist) (CPI-M) was continuing its policy of `capturing' cooperative societies. After the LDF came to power, governing bodies of several district cooperative banks had been disbanded citing lack of quorum, Mr. Raghavan said. The party's bid to take control of Pariyaram Medical College had not succeeded, he added.

He demanded that Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran order an inquiry into allegations of corruption against the governing body of the State Cooperative Bank. "Those who have been alleging Rs.1,500-crore corruption against the bank should order an inquiry," he said, adding that top leaders of the CPI(M) would be the main culprits if there was an inquiry.

KCWF State president R. Ramachandran Nair presided. CMP leader C.P. John and organising committee chairman C.A. Ajeer were present.
