NMU to obstruct private operators
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
National Mazdoor Union (NMU) activists will squat in front of buses belonging to private operators from March.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, working president of the union M. Nageswara Rao and general secretary Syed Mahmood said that private operators were obtaining permission to run contract carriages, but were operating them on the highways as stage carriages.
Though the RTC union represented the matter to the Government many times, no action was initiated by the Transport Department.
Rs. 1,000 cr. loss
Private buses were causing a revenue loss of Rs. 1,000 crores to the RTC. If the Government failed to intervene in the matter, the NMU would resort to direct action and stop the operation of private buses, they said.
Regularisation
The NMU activists would lay siege to all district Collectorates on February 22 demanding the regularisation of conductors and drivers now working on a contract basis. Though it was agreed upon to regularise their services, the Government was rejecting the proposal of the RTC citing frivolous reasons.
