Protest against poor remunerative price for produce Turmeric ryots incurring losses for the last three years
HYDERABAD:
Angered over the poor remunerative price for turmeric crop, farmers in seven mandals of Nizamabad district have decided to lay siege to the national highway 7 and 16 on February 20, as part of `mahadharna' protest programme.
Swadeshi Jagran Manch State convener M. Rajamahender Reddy and co-convener L. Veeragopal told reporters here on Sunday that for the last three years turmeric ryots were incurring losses. As against an investment of Rs. 40,000 per acre the returns were a mere Rs. 20,000, they pointed out.
Mr. Reddy said Armoor, Jakranpalli, Velpur, Nandipet, Kammarpalli, Bheemgal and Morthad mandals in the district were contributing 80 per cent of turmeric production. Farmers would sit on a dharna all along the NH-7.
