Party will not indulge in `opportunistic politics'

HYDERABAD:
A day after its offer to consider with an "open mind" any proposal from Telangana Rashtra Samiti for a tie-up in the Legislative Council elections, the Telugu Desam on Sunday sought to downplay the issue, saying it would not indulge in "opportunistic politics".
Asked about TRS leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao's comments that his party would give all the local bodies seats to the TDP if it supported Statehood for Telangana, senior TDP leader T. Devender Goud said it had not put forward any proposal to anybody. "There is no need for it. We are not running after power or seats. The TDP was not in the habit of indulging in `opportunistic politics' like the TRS," he said.
E. Peddi Reddy said that no signals were sent by the TDP to the TRS, nor were any received. He, however, reiterated that if the regional party came forward with a proposal it would be considered.
