Priority for welfare in budget, says YSR

Cabinet meet convened on Monday morning to give its formal approval for the budget


  • Two-day Collector's conference on February 24 and 25
  • State determined to complete ongoing irrigation projects

    HYDERABAD: Finance Minister K. Rosaiah will present the State's annual budget for 2007-08 at noon in the Assembly on Monday.

    He said that no fresh taxes would be imposed nor the existing levies revised in the fourth successive budget that he would be placing before the House.

    Cabinet meeting

    A meeting of the Cabinet has been convened by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday morning to give its formal approval for the budget.

    Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said the budget for the coming fiscal would open up new chapter in the State's development.

    "It will reflect the aspirations of the people, like irrigation facility to every acre of land, permanent dwelling to all shelter less poor, pension to eligible people, enhanced loans to youth and women and opportunities to unemployed," he said.

    Priority area

    A press note issued by his office said the budget would accord priority to the welfare sector and development of all regions in the State.

    The Chief Minister announced that the two-day Collector's conference on February 24 and 25 would discuss the Indiramma housing programme, loans to self-help groups at three per cent interest, scholarships, pensions and other welfare measures.

    The Government was determined to complete the ongoing irrigation projects and ensure that more than one crore acres were cultivated, it said.
