Rajahmundry: With polling just a few hours away, political analysts have started the number game. Out of 50 wards in the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation (RMC), the ruling Congress is confident of winning 20 wards while the TDP sure in some 18 wards. There is a tug of war in 10 wards and independents are going to make their way in two wards. It will be interesting to watch wards where the TDP is much ahead of the Congress, where Ministers, MPs reside and where Congress is confident of winning the ward in TDP leader's area. TDP mayoral candidate Aadireddy Veera Raghavamma is putting all efforts to win from the 11th ward with the support of party city president and husband Aadireddy Apparao. Minister Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao's residence falls in this ward. So, the Minister and his wife Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi are trying hard to defeat Ms. Raghavamma. In the municipal colony, where Amalapuram MP G.V. Harshakumar is residing, TDP candidate C. Venkataraju is ahead of Congress candidate Bheemavarapu Venkateswara Rao. TDP campaign committee chairman Ganni Krishna's house is in this area.
TDP stronghold
Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arunakumar shifted his residence to Danavaipeta, a stronghold of the TDP. Adapa Venkataramana is the sitting TDP corporator and well-known personality in the area. However, MLA Rowthu Suryapraksha Rao is better placed as the contesting candidate Manchala Babji is not only a sitting corporator but is also having a good image in the area. He is ahead of the TDP in that area. On the other hand, Vasamsetty Gangadhar, the sitting corporator and Congress nominee, is confident about winning from the area where TDP leader and Mayor M.S. Chakravarti resides. Former Minister Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary and Mr. Adireddy Apparao are confident of their candidates winning from their respective wards. Independents are out to make a mark and ex-officio members may have to save the Congress in case of a neck-and-neck contest for election of Mayor.
