VIZIANAGARAM: The Zilla Parishad has approved the budget proposals for the year 2007-08 with a surplus of Rs. 87.79 crores. The special meeting convened on Sunday advocated an estimated revenue of Rs. 430.03 crores and expenditure of Rs. 342.24 crores. The meeting also ratified the administrative sanctions given for 16,340 works at an estimated cost of Rs. 205.66 crores under the National Rural Employment Guarantee programme.
Job scheme
During a discussion on rural job guarantee scheme, MLA Sujayakrishna Ranga Rao, Vice-Chairman G. Sudershana Rao and ZPTC member Botcha Appala Narasaiah expressed concern over cut in cubic metre rate for the earth works executed and sought flexibility in rate calculation. The Vice-Chairman pointed out that the rate paid was not in tune with the work done under the programme and that was the reason for the slow pace of work in majority of mandals in the district. Collector B. Kishore said that the issue would be taken to the notice of the government. Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi, Lok Sabha member, promised to release Rs. 4 lakhs from her grants towards building rent for housing the Kendriya Vidyalaya sanctioned in the town.
