GULBARGA: The State government has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 4.1 crore for taking up repair and maintenance of major district roads in Chitapur taluk in Gulbarga district this year. Addressing a press conference here, Vishwanath Patil Hebbal, representing Chitapur Assembly Constituency, said on Saturday that this would help in taking up repair and maintenance works and in filling up of potholes in all major district roads in the taluk.
Mr Hebbal said the Government had also sanctioned projects worth Rs. 9.42 crore under the Prime Minister Gram Rozgar Yojna (PMGRY) for laying of four new roads, including Kalgi-Kadadur Road, covering a distance of 9 km at a cost of Rs 2.7 crore, construction of a new road from Aurad to Khumsi covering a distance of 10 km at Rs 1.92 crore, construction of a new road from Hadnur to Kalebnur covering 12 km at a cost of Rs. 2.09 crore, and another new road between
Referring to the lack of basic facilities in Chitapur town, Mr. Hebbal said the Chitapur town could not be called a town and admitted that in real sense it was a slum.
Special fund
To improve the conditions in Chitapur Town, he had persuaded the Government to release a special fund of Rs 1.25 crore under the State Finance Commission head this year for laying roads and constructing drains, along with other basic amenities.
He said Chitapur town would change in the next two years.
