Gulbarga
Special Correspondent
GULBARGA: Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey on Sunday directed Gulbarga City Corporation Commissioner S.P. Mudhol to submit within a week all details pertaining to roadwork and other development projects, the funds released and the actual expenditure. Mr. Pandey had been asked by Lok Ayukta Santosh Hegde to look into a complaint of alleged misappropriation of funds by the corporation in executing development projects taken up under the Chief Minister's special package and the State Finance Commission Funds. The complaint was filed by the working president of the District Janata Dal (U), Raju Kulageri. On Sunday, Mr. Pandey made a spot inspection of some of the works mentioned in the complaint of Dr. Kulageri, along with the senior officials of the corporation. Mr. Pandey told The Hindu that no final decision had been reached on the complaint filed by Dr. Kulageri and he had asked City Corporation officials to submit all details of release of funds for works and the actual expenditure. He said a decision was taken for a third party inspection of all works mentioned in the complaint. Mr. Pandey said the Poojya Doddappa Appa (PDA) College of Engineering in Gulbarga city would be entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the third party inspection. Dr. Kulageri, who was also present during the spot inspection in Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk and Station Bazaar locality, alleged that the corporation officials had not fully utilised the funds released and had also allegedly taken up same works in different names. The number of footpaths proposed to be taken up by the corporation had not been laid and the funds allocated for this was utilised even before the work could be completed. Dr. Kulageri, during the recent visit of the Lok Ayukta and the Upa Lok Ayukta to Gulbarga city, submitted a detailed memorandum alleging misappropriation of funds.
Inquiry sought
Dr. Kulageri had also met Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswammy twice and District in-charge Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur and demanded a high-level inquiry into the affairs of the city corporation.
