BHUBANESWAR: Five persons were seriously injured when two political groups clashed at Jagulaipadar village in Puri district in connection with the Zilla Parishad elections on Sunday morning. Several others were said to have sustained minor injuries in the village under politically sensitive Kanas Block. Five persons were admitted in the Capital Hospital here. One of them was referred to SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack after his condition deteriorated. "The clash occurred early in the morning in which pellets and hand bombs were used. Though it was not yet clear about the party affiliation of those who were involved in the clash, but news of winning of a rebel-BJD candidate caused the melee," Puri Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Panda said. He said two sections of police had been deployed in the village to maintain law and order in the area.
