Staff Correspondent

Congress set to corner the BJP Govt. on the issues of naxalism and corruption

  • `Organisations linked with BJP spreading communal hatred
  • Other issues to be raised are electricity and poor quality of roads

BHOPAL: The budget session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly would begin here with the Governor's address on Monday.

The session, scheduled to continue till April 5, is expected to be stormy with the main opposition Congress party all geared up to target the Bharatiya Janata Party led State Government on the issuesof communalism, naxalism, and corruption. The Government would be countering the Opposition charges by projecting its focused attempts to ensure the welfare of farmers, SC/ST, women and the weaker sections. Addressing newspersons here on Sunday, the leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Jamuna Devi said that they would be putting the Government in the dock over the "deteriorating law and order situation and rising incidence of communal violence in different parts of the State."

She alleged that different organisations linked with the BJP were spreading communal hatred and even the administrative set up was being poisoned on communal lines. She said that the Government would be asked to give a reply in the House on the role of BJP and its linked organisations when it came to the recent communal riots at Biaora, Ujjain, Badnagar, Indore and Jabalpur.

Ms. Devi said that they would also be cornering the Government on the issue of naxalism, particularly the arms manufacturing unit that was being operated by a group of naxalites in the State capital.

She accused the BJP-led Government of converting Madhya Pradesh into the most corrupt State. She further said that it had failed "miserably" in meeting the farmers' demand for electricity and urea. The people were also suffering due to the poor quality of roads and excessive billing on the electricity front, she pointed out and went on to allege that there has been large-scale rigging of cooperative elections. All these issues would be raised prominently in the Assembly, she asserted.
