Congress wants Beas poll before February 27

Chandigarh: The Congress has urged the Election Commission to hold polling in Beas Assembly constituency before February 27.

Polling in Beas was postponed to March 11 due to the death of a person in a clash just before the February 13 elections in Punjab.

In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, Punjab Congress President Shamsher Singh Dullo has said outcome of the Assembly elections, where counting is scheduled for February 27, will have its repercussions on the Beas constituency in favour or against a particular candidate.

``Moreover annual examinations of Central Board of Secondary Education as well as Punjab School Education Board are commencing in the first week of March and election campaigning during that period will have negative effect on the preparations of the students taking these examinations,'' Mr. Dullo said, according to a party release here today.

He requested the EC to reschedule the date for Beas election and hold it either on February 24th, or 25th or 26th so that polling is held before the counting of votes in rest of the State takes place.

`SAD-BJP will win 80 seats'

Yamunanagar: The SAD-BJP combine will win 80 Assembly seats in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said on Sunday.

Talking to reporters here, he predicted snap polls in the country. PTI
