JAIPUR: Rajasthan has sought an enhancement in the Central share in the Centrally-sponsored schemes for welfare of tribals to 90 per cent to get better results of various initiatives. The Centre and States presently contribute 50 per cent each to these schemes. Rajasthan Minister for Tribal Area Development Kanakmal Katara made the demand at a meeting of Tribal Welfare Ministers of States in New Delhi over the week-end. Union Tribal Affairs Minister P.R. Kindia presided over the meeting. Mr. Katara pointed out that though tribals constituted 12.56 per cent of the total population of Rajasthan, the assistance under the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) was available to them only if they were in the below poverty line (BPL) category.
