BSNL cuts roaming

call charges

CHENNAI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam has reduced roaming call charges with effect from February 15. The national roaming calls are now free for selected post-paid plans. The revised charges for outgoing local calls while on roaming is Rs.1.40 a minute and for outgoing STD calls while roaming, it is Rs. 2.40. Incoming calls while roaming for pre-paid plans and post-paid plan (plan 225/140/100/99) is Rs. 1.75 a minute. For other post-paid plans, tariff varies from 65 paise a minute to Rs.1.50 a minute.

Public awareness meeting

A public awareness meeting on autism, learning disability and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder would be held at Karnataka Sangha Auditorium, Habibullah Road, T.Nagar on Saturday for parents, teachers and health professionals. Hosted by Rehab 2006, the programme would highlight issues such as screening and management of children with learning problem and scholastic backwardness.

Medical camp

Around 350 people were screened at a health camp organised by Hindu Mission Hospital at Pallavaram Municipal School on Sunday. A team of seven doctors treated the patients for problems including dental, skin, ENT and paediatrics. Twenty-four persons were referred for eye surgeries and four for general surgeries.

Leadership programme

SchoolScape Centre for Educators is hosting a six-day school leadership programme on "The Self and the Institution" from Friday at Hotel Ramada Rajpark, Alwarpet, for teachers and those who influence educational organisations.

With Shelley Ostroff from Israel and Gouranga Chattopadhyay from Kolkata as faculty, the workshop will explore the learning processes that enhances or hinders the well-being of children. The fee is Rs.14,800. For details, contact 4281 5421 or 99400 71854.

Aid to fire-affected

Around 560 families who were affected by a recent fire accident at Doomingkuppam were provided with relief materials including utensils by Salvation Army India on Saturday. M.Y. Emmanuel, Commander of the Salvation Army India (Central Territory) participated.

Cultural programme

Students of Madras School of Social Work presented a cultural programme against the use of alcohol on Saturday at Pakkam near Thiruninravur. Around 500 people from nearby villages attended the programme hosted by Sevalaya, a charitable trust.
