TAMBARAM : Two students studying MBA died on the spot when their motorcycle collided with a lorry on Grand Southern Trunk Road at Pallavaram on Sunday morning. The truck went away without stopping. A. Praveen and S. Thyagarajan, both aged 22, were on their way to take part in a cricket tournament held at the premises of their engineering college in Kattankulathur, about 25 km south of Chennai. Praveen, a resident of Todhunter Nagar in Saidapet was riding the Bajaj Pulsar with his classmate Thyagarajan - of Ranipet in Vellore district - seated on the pillion. At 5.45, the motorcycle dashed against a lorry carrying a load of blue metal. The lorry was turning right into Old Trunk Road from GST Road near the English Electric intersection when the accident took place. According to eyewitnesses, all they saw was the lorry was painted red in colour. Neither the eye-witnesses nor police have any clue about which vehicle was at fault. A case of hit-and-run has been registered. The eye-witnesses said both vehicles slowed down near the intersection, adding that poor illumination on this stretch was the reason for the accident. Only a few days ago, a police constable was killed after being hit by a lorry near Sunday's accident spot. Barricades were placed at the intersection by police as part of efforts to curtail speeding and rash driving. Senior officials of the Chennai City Traffic Police visited the spot. Police investigating the accident said the victims were not wearing helmets.
