EXCHANGING VIEWS: Governor R.L. Bhatia and ISRO Chairman G. Madhavan Nair at a seminar on aviation organised in the city on Sunday.
KOCHI: Governor R.L. Bhatia has given a call to develop more aviation infrastructure in India, to cater to the spurt in air travel in the country. He was speaking after inaugurating a national seminar on `Aviation infrastructure in India', organised by the Aeronautical Society of India, in Kochi on Sunday. It is commendable that the Society is involved in reviewing the aeronautical policy, for exploring India's potential in the sector. The foray into unexplored areas will have an impact on the socio-economic development of each region, he said. Mr. Bhatia said that it was imperative to equip the country to meaningfully contribute to the national and international aerospace scene. The Society's endeavour to raise the standard of executive and regulatory authorities for developing the country's air-transport potential, was good. Although India has a long history in the sector, the country needs to revamp its industry to bring it in tune with modern scientific advancements. The Governor remarked that the aerospace environment has undergone a historic change, post 9/11. The parameters and priorities for further growth have been redefined, he added. Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation G. Madhavan Nair said the aeronautic industry is poised for growth and air-traffic will increase because of the influx of private airlines into the country. The Centre was likely to set up an aeronautic commission, to monitor developments in the aviation industry, he said. Chairman and managing director of Kingfisher Airlines Vijay Mallya called for more planning and focus in the country's aviation sector. Chairman and managing director of Air India T. Tulasidas too was present.
