FAST-PACED ROMANCE: At the Speed Dating in Bangalore on Sunday. Photo: K. Murali Kumar
BANGALORE: Sporting his trademark hat and a whacky laughter, "sudden death Romeo", Faisal did a cameo on stage. His unseen, yet to be chosen "Juliet" watched in awe as Faisal unleashed his repertoire of masterly dialogues in style and speed. Floored, the lady in waiting, Runjun sighed. The duo had just conquered "Speed," and could hardly wait for their date. Speed Dating, Indigo Nation's idea of a little "fast-paced romance" had floored its first couple. Out of 30 lucky participants from 2,000 registrations, Runjun and Faisal had just turned luckier. Single and hell-bent to mingle, the 15 men and 15 women had all arrived on time. For the first round, they were all blindfolded. The idea: they could not see one another and instead had to rely on their voices and the gift of the gab. The ice broken, the participants were now ready to shake a leg, loosen up to dance on stage. Time was just ripe for some serious three-minute dating in the final round. Three minutes was all that they had to talk and learn about each other's likes, dislikes, habits and overall personality. Every three minutes, the presenter intervened to shift the men to where the next woman participant sat. At the end of it all, scorecards were marked and handed in. Eventually when the results were announced, Faisal and Runjun had reason to flash a smile. The two had once met many years ago. But this time was special. Confronted for a quote, Faisal refused to commit himself. Everything was for fun, he declared. Runjun was apparently not so sure. The others walked back home with fluttering hearts and butterflies in their stomachs. Yet, some were lucky and just bid their time to make their first calls. They had jotted down the mobile numbers for a romantic call. Speed was for the first meeting. They could take their time counting the trees.
