BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) has taken serious note of the alleged involvement of an advocate in an insurance claim fraud and will seek an explanation from him before initiating action. KSBC Chairman Y.R. Sadashiva Reddy told The Hindu that the council became aware of it following a report published in The Hindu last April.

On April 14, 2006, an advocate along with a police official and government doctor, all accused of faking records and making bogus motor vehicle accident claims, had moved the Karnataka High Court for bail.

The doctor, employed as a medical officer in a primary health clinic in Byremangala, Ramanagaram, Bangalore Rural district, allegedly fabricated medical records to show that eight persons travelling in a KSRTC bus were injured in a road accident.

The advocate and the then sub-inspector of Nelamangala police station were also involved in fabricating records to claim insurance money. The KSRTC ordered an internal investigation and its Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer filed a complaint in the Ulsoor Gate police station accusing 12 persons of trying to dupe the corporation.
