BANGALORE: The former High Court Judge M.F. Saldanha has urged the State Government to review and retrace the Forest Department action of booking cases against People For Animals (PFA) wild animal rescue and rehabilitation centre for violating various provisions of wildlife and forest Acts. Mr. Saldanha has said this in a letter addressed to the Forest Minister, a copy of which was sent to the PFA founder and former Union Minister Menaka Gandhi. In the letter, Mr. Saldanha said he visited the rescue centre and he examined the records maintained by the PFA. There was no ground for levelling any charges against the institution or its officer, he said. It is sad that the department has threatened seizure of the property and vehicles belonging to the PFA, he said. On February 1, the Forest Department booked a case against R. Sharath Babu, senior manager of PFA, for possessing, transporting and releasing of wildlife without proper permission of the Department and also for unauthorised use of land near the Turahalli Gudda Reserve Forests at Kengeri.
