Thiruvananthapuram
Banks and Pongala Thiruvananthapuram city comes to a standstill on the Attukal Pongala day every year. While the local authorities declare a local holiday for State Government offices and educational institutions, bank employees have to report for work. It is a nightmarish experience to commute all the way to bank offices on the Pongala day as the entire arterial roads, main and sub-lanes in the city are blocked. This year the Pongala will be held on March 3. Being a Saturday, most of the Central Government offices will also remain closed. It will be of great relief to all bank employees if a holiday is declared on the Pongala day under the Negotiable Instruments Act. R. Hariharan K. Padmanabhan V. Padmanabhan P. Subramonian Thiruvananthapuram Shift bus stop The stop for city buses to Pappanamcode, Vellayani, Thirumala, Balaramapuram, etc. is in front of Sree Kumar and Sree Visakh theatres. Manjalikulam Road and SS Koil Road meet here and the RMS Office is right opposite. Being a busy junction, the elderly and women find it difficult to board buses from this stop. If it is shifted to its earlier place in front of G. Chandrasekhara Pillai building, it will be more convenient.
