Over 200 taken ill after having prasadam
Staff Reporter
NALGONDA:
More than 200 persons were taken ill after consuming pulihora, the traditional tamarind rice served as prasadam at a temple at Musipatla village in Mothkur mandal on Saturday night.
According to information reaching here, the devotees visited the Siva temple to offer special prayers a day after Sivaratri.
They were served pulihora as prasadam at the temple. Later they reportedly consumed water from the pond on the temple premises.
After sometime they developed nausea and started vomiting.
"Suddenly they started vomiting, creating panic among the villagers and some of them were even down with fever," a police officer said.
Shifted to Hospital
Five of them, including an 11-year-old boy, were shifted to the area hospital at Bhongir. It was not clear whether the cause of food poisoning was the prasadam or the water. The Collector, Kaveti Vijayanand, told The Hindu on Sunday that the situation was under control.
"There is nothing to worry. A medical team led by the District Medial & Health Officer Champa Naik is treating people in the village," he said.
