Detective
In a true murder mystery, the film director drops clues about the killer here and there, throwing a challenge to the audience to make a guess. This film does not provide any of that luxury, and the end is unexpected. Otherwise, it is an outstanding piece of suspense and thrill. Suresh Gopi plays a double role of an honest and up-and-coming politician, Mohan, and his half brother, Shyam, an ace police officer. Mohan's young wife, Rashmi (Sindhu Menon) is found dead in her room while alone at home. Though, initially, it looks like an open-and-shut case of suicide, as there is a suicide note, the case is different. A minor quarrel just before the death with his wife puts Mohan in trouble, and he ends up in jail as a suspect. Shyam is roped in by the chief minister (Prem Prakash) and director-general of police (Devan) to investigate the case. He meticulously unravels the mysteries one by one, revealing a grotesque murder executed in cold blood by someone no viewer can think of. The film is amazingly fast and gripping. Credit goes to its editor, P.C. Mohan, and screenplay writer and director, Jithu Joseph. Rajamani's background music adds to the curiosity and excitement to tantalising heights. There is no song in the film. Suresh Gopi pours his heart to the role of the detective in a convincing performance. Performance of Sindhu Menon, shown always in an unsatisfied mood, is praiseworthy. In smaller roles, Saikumar as an unscrupulous superintendent of police, Jagathy as a carefree and indifferent police officer and Cochin Haneefa as a nuisance-making opposition leader provide able support to the film.
