Plea to hike pay for doctors on contract

Special Correspondent

"It is an assurance given in Assemby"

Puducherry: The monthly pay paid to the doctors engaged on contract basis in the government hospital here should be revised as had been promised by the administration, said secretary of the Puducherry unit of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and MLA A. Anbalagan.

He told newsmen here on Monday that the Chief Minister and the Health Minister had assured on the floor of the House during the budget session some months ago that the pay, now being given at Rs. 12,000 a month, would be raised to Rs. 16,000. However, no government order to give effect to this assurance has been issued.

He said none of the assurances given by the Government had seen the light of the day.

Land acquisition

Mr. Anbalagan also questioned the propriety of the Government acquiring agricultural land and making them available to entrepreneurs either in the Special Economic Zone or for creating development zone. Farmers would get very measly amount for the land if Government acquired it, as the price would not be according to the market value. Hence, the entrepreneurs should have a direct interface with landowners and purchase the land, he said.
