Motorboat facility for Kechela again

Correspondent

KORAPUT: Motorboat service to Kechela may be re-introduced.

And this time with private initiative.

Fresh initiative

New Delhi-based Sri Aurobindo Ashram's Kechela branch has taken a fresh initiative to provide a motorboat to the people of Kechela.

This boat, worth Rs. 5 lakhs, will be managed by the community for their convenience, Sujay Pradhan, a member of the ashram, said at Koraput on Sunday.

Kechela, the famous Jain site in the district's tourism map, has been cut off from the mainland after construction of Upper Kolab dam near Koraput.

The district administration had given two motorboats for the use by the community and was being managed by the SHG.

But without sufficient support to repair the damaged motors of the boats, the facility was disowned by the community.

People were forced to travel in country boats risking their lives.

Looking at the difficulties of people, the ashram has decided to re-introduce the facility for the community, Mr. Pradhan said.
