Machine procured from Germany at a cost of Rs. 12 lakhs

  • Earlier, patients used to go to other States for treatment
  • Laser treatment arrests formation of cells, says expert

CUTTACK: For the first time in Orissa, complicated skin treatment would be done with the help of laser technology.

A city-based private clinic has procured a laser machine for treatment of skin ailments.

The cosmetic conscious women in the State, who suffer from discomforting situation of having unwanted hair and pimples on their face, would now no more go outside the State.

Apart from treating the diseases like hirsuitism (unwanted hair growth on face) and pimples, the machine would be also used to treat vitiligo (white patches) and psoriasis, says skin specialist P.C. Rath of Health Home Clinic, who procured the laser machine from Germany at a cost of Rs. 12 lakhs.

    Treatment cost

"Earlier, patients suffering from these diseases were travelling to places like Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi for laser treatment. Each patient was coughing up around Rs, 30,000 to Rs. 35,000 for at least five sessions of treatment outside the State,'' the skin specialist said.

``Now the same treatment can be availed here for less than Rs. 3,000," Dr. Rath said.

Basically, doctors look for gynaecological disorders among patients suffering from these diseases. Once it is ascertained that the patient is not having any gynaecology problem, laser treatment can begin to take care of the skin disorders," he says.

Explaining the treatment, Mr. Rath says excess formation of skin cells cause psoriasis.

Laser treatment helps arrest unnecessary formation of cells and maintains a balance between the cell formation and cell destruction to treat psoriasis.

Similarly, by laser treatment bulbs at the hair root are damaged as a result unnecessary hair growth can be arrested on face.
