Raichur: The Government should formulate a science policy based on the recommendations of the expert committee for promoting science at all levels of education, S.V. Sankanur, vice-president of the Karnataka Rajya Vinyana Parishat has said. He was speaking at the inauguration of the divisional-level science exhibition and competition for degree students in Raichur on Monday. It was organised by the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, the Karnataka Rajya Vinyana Parishat, the Department of Collegiate Education and the L.V.D. College for Science and Arts, Raichur. Mr. Sankanur, who is also the State convener for the science exhibition, said that students were choosing subjects other than science for graduation, keeping an eye on getting jobs soon after completing their studies. According to a study, only 14 per cent of students prefer to take up science subjects at the pre-university level and only seven per cent at the degree level. This trend had affected the development of science in education, he said.
Inaugurating the function, M. Nagappa, secretary of the Taranatha Shikshana Samsthe, said that students were showing more interest in studying technical subjects.
