One arrested

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: A police team lead by Rishikesan Nair, sub-inspector of police, Kayamkulam, arrested on Monday a person on charges of destructing a Sree Narayana Guru Mandiram, Kappil East, Kayamkulam.

The Guru Mandiram was found vandalised on February 16.

The police said the accused Somarajan, alias Nityaswaroopananda Puri, was arrested from Chottanikkara and he confessed to his role in the incident. The police said Mr. Puri was running an ashram near the Guru mandiram and had a quarrel with the managing committee members of the mandiram. Mr. Puri doubted that the managing committee members of the mandiram were diverting people who were coming to his ashram and therefore he vandalised it in revenge.
