BANGALORE: The proceedings of the Legislative Assembly were disrupted for the third consecutive day on Monday with the stalemate over the delay in holding of election to the post of Legislative Council Chairman yet to be resolved. The Assembly was adjourned within 15 minutes after it met in the morning as the Congress members continued their protest in the Well of the House demanding that the Government should hold election to the Council Chairman's post at the earliest. Though Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa held a round of mediation with the Congress leaders in the presence of Deputy Speaker N.Y. Goapalakrishna, the talks failed. The Congress rejected the Government's suggestion that the party which had majority in the Upper House should field one of its members set to retire in June as candidates for the proposed election to the post. Instead, the party asserted that it would field any of its candidates, recommended by its high command, for the election. Addressing presspersons after the meeting, Mr. Yediyurappa said the Government was ready to revoke the suspension of Congress members in the Council. But election to the post of Chairman would be held as suggested by the Government. Though the House met again in the afternoon, the Congress members continued their protest.Meanwhile, other Opposition members G.V. Sriram Reddy (CPI-M), Vatal Nagaraj (Kannada Chalavali Vatal Pakasha) and J.C. Madhuswamy (JD-U) demanded that they should be allowed to speak on the Cauvery water sharing issue. Mr. Nagaraj staged a walkout expressing dissatisfaction over not taking up a debate in the House on the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
