Ryots' plea to Transco

Madanapalle: Farmers on Monday requested the Transco officials to ensure that power was supplied only during daytime.

At a meeting held at the Transco office here, the officials said power was being supplied in two spells only during the day. It was being supplied in the nights only if a problem arose. Transco DE Janakiram said six proposals were sent with regard to the installation of 33 KV sub-stations in Madanapalle division. - Correspondent

Money power in politics decried

KURNOOL: District convener of Praja Party K. Babu has accused the mainstream parties of commercialisation. Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the parties converted political power into a commodity which could be bought only with money. He said they created a culture wherein only money could help win elections. As a result, the common man had no role in installation of Governments. - Special Correspondent

Reserve railway seats 90 days before

HYDERABAD: From March 1, passengers can reserve seats/berths up to 90 days prior to their journey on all trains except trains like Taj Express and Gomti Express for which there are lower time frames. The facility will be in effect for three months. - Special Correspondent

Ryot's bid to end life

KARIMNAGAR: A farmer K. Raji Reddy (40) made a vain bid to commit suicide by consuming pesticide in front of the chambers of Collector here on Monday suspecting that his grievance of land dispute would not be settled. Even before he could air his grievance to the Collector, the ryot whipped out a pesticide bottle and consumed it. He is stated to be out of danger. - Staff Reporter

Compounder killed

KADAPA: Brahmaiah Narayana (27), a compounder in a private hospital at Proddatur, was allegedly stabbed to death by his brother-in-law Sanjanna in the town on Sunday. - Staff Reporter

New lab at NGRI

HYDERABAD: The NGTI has set up an isotope geochemistry and geochronology laboratory. According to Y.J. Bhaskar Rao, Scientist `G' who heads it, the lab will support basic and applied research projects in solid earth, ocean and environmental sciences. - Special Correspondent
