Budget lacks vision, says TDP president

HYDERABAD: Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said the budget presented to the Assembly lacked vision.

Mr. Naidu told presspersons here that the budget called the bluff of Government's claims on irrigation and agriculture sectors. It was impractical and bound to cast a heavy tax burden on people, besides pushing the State into a debt trap, he observed.

He said the allocation for social welfare had been reduced. Tax burden looked inevitable as the Government wanted to mop up 24 per cent more revenue, he noted.

For the TRS, the budget was `anti-Telangana' as it failed to address three burning issues — G.O. 610 on repatriation of non-locals, irrigation and power. There was no budgetary allocation for creation of supernumerary posts to repatriate non-local employees, party floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao said.

A mere chronicle: BJP

BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya termed the budget nothing but a chronicle of contents in news reports published by various dailies.

There was nothing worth mentioning in the budget. CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu said the Government neglected the welfare sector.

The fiscal control measures prescribed by the World Bank were reflected in the budget. CPI(M) legislator Nomula Narasimhaiah said it reflected the miserly attitude of the Government.

CPI leader Chada Venkat Reddy found fault with the Government for earmarking a lion's share to irrigation.

Owaisi lauds

MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi complimented the Government for taking steps to check revenue deficit and hailed the hike in the scholarship of minority students on a par with BCs.

BJP floor leader G. Kishan Reddy regretted that price stabilisation fund was not constituted.

Taking exception to Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, quoting Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, the Lok Satta said Mr. Sen proposed human development but the budget promoted `corruption.'
