Achuthanandan visits Delhi Metro

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan visited the Delhi Metro on Monday and said the Kochi Metro Rail Project would be completed within four years and the mode of management would be decide upon after examining all options.

The Chief Minister, who travelled in the Metro from Central Secretariat and back, was accompanied by E. Sreedharan, Managing Director of the DMRC. The journey that lasted an hour-and-a-half passed through Rajiv Chowk, Karol Bagh and Chawri Bazaar.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Achuthanandan said all opposition to the Kochi Metro Project would be firmly dealt with.

Reiterating the benefits of having the Metro in Kochi, he said, it would reduce travelling time and allow commuters to escape traffic jams.

He said while the State would rely on the expertise and experience of Mr. Sreedharan, funds for the construction would be sought from the Centre. Mr. Achuthanandan also said that introduction of suburban trains in Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram were on the agenda and discussions with the railway authorities were under way.
