Vigilance wing charge-sheets four officials

Assets disproportionate to their known sources of income found in raids

BHUBANESWAR: The Vigilance Department of Orissa Government has charge-sheeted four officers in the rank of Orissa Administrative Service (OAS) under Prevention of Corruption Act after detection of assets disproportionate to their known sources of income and misappropriation of public money.

The anti-corruption wing has also charge-sheeted one Block Development Officer (BDO) after establishment of prima facie during the investigation. Besides, a number of other government employees will face trial in court for allegedly aiding these high officials.

According to a vigilance department statement, a charge-sheet has been filed against Gandadhar Mohannda, former additional district magistrate of Baragarh in special vigilance court on the charge of possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs. 20.58 lakhs.

Another charge-sheet has been filed against Chudamani Seth, District Project Coordinator of DPEP, Bolangir, on the charge of amassing Rs. 16.71 lakhs.

Another OAS officer, Hemanta Kumar Behera, serving as BDO at Lakhanpur Block, was found to be involved in misappropriation of government money to the tune of Rs. 1.33 lakhs.

The vigilance wing filed a charge-sheet against Mr. Behera in this connection. Along with him, Iswar Chandra Meher, a senior clerk, would face the trial.

Case against ex-BDO

Similarly, a charge-sheet has been filed against Bishnupada Grahacharya, former BDO of Hatadihi Block in Keonjhar district, and his colleagues -- Srikanta Sethy, Progressive Assistant, Ramesh Chandra Sethy, Fisheries Extension Officer, and Surendra Kumar Jena, Junior Engineer on the charge of misappropriation of 1940 quintals of rice under Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojna (SGRY).
